This report is released every four months to shed light on issues emerging from information about the country that have or are likely to have a significant social impact. It focuses on issues with a direct effect on Afghans’ daily lives and that may have profound yet overlooked consequences on the humanitarian response.

From the beginning of the Sudan conflict on 15 April to 10 December, at least 555,000 people crossed from Sudan into Chad, including an estimated 450,000 Sudanese refugees and 98,500 Chadian returnees. These new refugees add to the over 427,000 Sudanese refugees who had been living in camps in Chad for over a decade.

Violent incidents reported include attacks, kidnapping, and extortion by non-state armed groups (NSAGs), such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State – West Africa Province (ISWAP), as well as militias known locally as bandits.

As at 30 September, the escalation of violence in April had forcibly displaced at least 2.6 million children, the largest in the world. The effects of displacement on children are deep and far-reaching, leaving them vulnerable to a range of physical and psychological challenges and often grappling with feelings of insecurity and uncertainty.
