The report aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the main drivers of the current food insecurity situation in the Grand Sud and its impact on affected households across humanitarian response sectors. The report also provides an overview of coping mechanisms used by people in need, which have further adverse effects. 

ACAPS identified five risks to the humanitarian context and published an overview report in November 2021 looking at the following six months. After monitoring each risk and its corresponding indicators and reviewing any relevant developments since November, ACAPS analysts and technical experts were able to update the risk outlook, creating the basis for this risk update.

The Social Impact Monitoring Report aims to develop better insights on the vulnerability of people to social and economic factors in Yemen and the impact these factors may have. This report is produced approximately every two months to support changes in understanding identified over time.

Because of a meteorological phenomenon known as the South Atlantic Convergence Zone, the Brazilian states of Bahia and Minas Gerais have been experiencing heavy rainfall since early December. The rains have caused flooding in 164 municipalities in Bahia and 341 in Minas Gerais. As at 25 January, more than 965,000 people in both states are affected. 

Heavy rainfall, heavy snowfall, and sub-zero temperatures hit Balochistan province between 4–10 January, causing flash floods and landslides. The floods affected over 17,300 people in 41 villages within the Gwadar district and damaged or destroyed more than 500 houses.

On 2 January 2022, confrontations began in rural areas along Arauca River on the Colombia-Venezuela border. As at 24 January, the Colombian Government and humanitarian organisations recorded 36 people killed, around 1,530 IDPs, 21 families displaced from Venezuela, and at least five indigenous communities still affected by confinement.

On 15 December 2021, tropical depression Twenty-Eight intensified over the western Pacific into typhoon Rai (locally known as Odette). Over 780,000 people were affected by the typhoon and have received some form of support or assistance. 400,000 people require urgent relief and long-term support.

On 28 November 2021, an earthquake occurred in the district of Barranca, Datem del Marañón province, department of Loreto. Over 5,100 houses, 518 schools, and 71 hospitals were affected. The earthquake has destroyed several roads and caused the Utcubamba River to overflow. 

ACAPS' Humanitarian Access Overview provides a snapshot of the most challenging contexts to operate. Crisis-affected populations in more than 70 countries are not receiving the humanitarian assistance they need because of access constraints. No new countries have entered the ranking since the last release in July 2021.

Thousands of migrants have been arriving to the Belarusian border since July 2021. As at 13 November, an estimated 20,000 migrants and asylum seekers are present in Belarus. At least 5,000 people are stuck on the Poland-Belarus border without adequate access to services or assistance.
