This report aims to outline the recent escalation of the armed conflict in Zaporizka oblast, its likely development in the next three months, and current and potential humanitarian impacts. Since the humanitarian crisis in Zaporizka oblast is underreported, and a limited number of assessments have been produced since the escalation, this report aims to support humanitarian response planning.

Early morning on 14 December, Chido made landfall in Mayotte, with sustained winds of 225km/h. At least 22 deaths and 1,500 injuries had been reported, a figure that could rise significantly as relief efforts progress, as many people remain missing. 40% of houses in Mayotte were already in precarious condition. 

The conflict in Kwamouth territory, Mai-Ndombe province, in the western DRC erupted in June 2022 because of a longstanding dispute between the Teke and Yaka communities over land rights and customary fees. Factors such as increasing population pressure, resource scarcity, and political manipulation have aggravated conflict between the two communities. As of 24 October 2024, 146,000 people have been displaced. 

This report examines the distinct impacts of escalating violence on children across Ecuador, with a particular focus on protection, education, and health in the provinces of Esmeraldas and Guayas. 

Following the onset of Ukrainian forces’ crossborder incursion into Russia’s Kursk oblast in August 2024, Russian attacks in Sumska oblast have increased, leading to a deterioration in the oblast’s overall context. This report aims to highlight the support needed to respond to the crisis and reinforce preparedness plans to mitigate the impacts of an anticipated further deterioration in the security and humanitarian situation in the next six months.

On 27 November 2024, the opposition group Hayat Tahrir Al Sham, launched an operation against Government of Syria in Aleppo. Within six days, the opposition had significantly expanded its territorial control. It is estimated that hundreds of civilians have been killed or injured. Escalating violence has displaced up to 178,000 people, severely affecting shelter, food security, healthcare, and access to education. 

This report aims to assess the needs of IDPs experiencing individual displacement because of conflict in Colombia, with a specific focus on the municipalities of Bogotá, Buenaventura, Florencia, and Ocaña.

This report highlights the challenges surrounding aid delivery for humanitarian organisations and access to that aid for people in need.  It aims to inform humanitarian responders, donors, and decision makers about the access constraints affecting their operations, staff, and the communities they serve.

By 11 November, Trami and Kong-rey had affected over 9.6 million people in 17 of the country’s 18 regions. By 12 November, there were nearly 893,000 people in humanitarian needs. By 31 October, a total of 160 cities and municipalities across the country had declared a state of calamity.

Since late July 2024, Chad has been experiencing floods amid the heavy rains of the lingering rainy season (typically from May–October), affecting all 23 of the country’s provinces, 119 of 125 departments, and nearly two million people. 

The Pacific Coast of Mexico received the first landfall of Hurricane John on 23 September and then the second landfall on 27 September. Over 280,000 people have been affected in Guerrero and Oaxaca state, and at least 39,000 houses were damaged in Guerrero state. Over 40,000 hectares of crops have been destroyed.

This report aims to highlight the anticipated humanitarian impact of the coming winter season on the population in Gaza. It particularly focuses on shelter and NFIs, WASH, and health, the sectors anticipated to face the most winter-related impacts.

On 20 October 2024, Hurricane Oscar landed in Cuba as a Category 1. In Guantanamo province, floods and landslides particularly affected the municipalities of Baracoa, Imías, Maisí, and San Antonio del Sur. By 22 October, at least 15,000 people were affected, including seven fatalities.

This report compares access challenges across Ukrainian oblasts to inform humanitarian responders and support decision-making. It is part of the ACAPS quarterly analysis of access constraints, with the previous report published on 29 July 2024.

On 5 October 2024, Israel launched offensives in northern Gaza. It has been estimated that around 75,000 people were displaced between 5–15 October. Most are internally displaced within northern Gaza, fleeing from North Gaza to Gaza City governorate, as continued fighting and blocked roads prevent movement to south.

This report  highlights developments in the conflict in Papua in 2024, which indicate worsening humanitarian needs among affected communities. The report emphasises significant humanitarian access constraints and response gaps and examines the outlook in the coming months.

In 2024, Pakistan has experienced an exceptionally intense monsoon season (typically from July–September), leading to extensive damage and casualties.  In some parts of the country, rainfall levels have reached up to 318% above normal. 

Heavy rainfall on 27–28 September caused flash floods, the overflow of rivers, and landslides in 44 districts across Nepal, with the worst effects in the hilly Kathmandu Valley followed by the plains of eastern Koshi and Madhesh provinces, increasing their vulnerability to flooding.
