This report aims to provide an overview of the humanitarian needs and risks children are facing given the escalating violence in Haiti. While mainly covering the escalation of conflict in 2024 and its impact on children, the report also provides contextual information.

On 9 September 2024, heavy rain and structural damage caused the Alau Dam in Konduga local government area (LGA), Borno state, to collapse. The dam collapse caused flash flooding in neighbouring Maiduguri and Jere LGAs.

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is at the epicentre of the current monkeypox (mpox) epidemic, accounting for 90% of all cases in Africa. Mpox is endemic in the DRC, with cases reported since the 1970s.

This briefing note explores TFGBV in Yemen, seeking to identify how TFGBV is perpetrated, analyse its impact on survivors, and explore how women and girls navigate these challenges within a society characterised by traditional gender roles and a strong emphasis on ‘honour’. This report also identifies information gaps that require further investigation for a better understanding of TFGBV in Yemen. 
 

On 20 August 2024, heavy monsoon rains, alongside a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, caused widespread flooding in eastern Bangladesh, increasing the water levels in Dhalai, Feni, Gomti, Halda, Khoai, Manu, Muhuri, and Surma-Kushiara Rivers.

This report analyses pre and post-7 October MHPSS needs in Gaza, the drivers of needs, and MHPSS resources and coping capacities, highlighting the specific needs of people of different genders and ages, people with disabilities, healthcare workers, and detained Palestinians. 

Since May 2024, Niger has been facing its worst flooding since 2020. By 20 August, authorities had reported that over 46,500 households and more than 353,200 individuals had been affected, with 217 deaths and 200 injuries across the country. 

Yemen is currently in the midst of the Kharif season, the second of its twice-yearly rainy periods.The impact of this rainy season, which began in July, has killed at least 45 people and affected over 37,700 others. 

Since 30 June 2024, continuous heavy rainfall in Myanmar has led to flash floods that have particularly affected the northern and northwestern regions, including Bago, Kachin, Magway, Mandalay, Sagaing, and Shan.

On 21 and 22 August 2024, Israel issued evacuation orders covering 15 neighbourhoods of Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis in central and southwestern Gaza, respectively. Based on initial estimates, around 30,000 people lived in 146 IDP sites in the affected areas as of 21 August.
